The site was first developed in the 1940s, with multiple structures supporting the operation of the Tonopah Army Air Field during World War II. Nye County has owned the land since 1949, dividing the property into three parcels for redevelopment purposes. The site is a portion of leased lands associated with historic refinery operations.
A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment was completed in March 2016. A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment was recommended due to suspected impacts from petroleum hydrocarbons. Ongoing assessment was pending identifying redevelopment goals at the end of the grant period. Environmental reports are available upon request.
