The RDSBC was formed in 2011 to apply for an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Coalition Assessment Grant.

In the fall of 2011, the EPA awarded the RDSBC a $1,000,000 grant to:

• Identify and assess potential brownfield sites within the Coalition area
• Conduct area-wide planning activities to support renewable energy related redevelopment
• Engage in public outreach to the communities and interested stakeholders
