Nye County Public Works Buildings 1 and 2

Nye County Public Works Building 1 location was developed prior to 1909, for use as a warehouse.  The Building 2 location was developed prior to 1941.  Nye County has owned and operated both facilities since 1966.

A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) was completed in December 2014.  The Phase I recommended further assessments to identify any potential asbestos containing building materials, mold, lead-based paint, and presence of underground-ground storage tanks. A limited Phase II ESA was completed in February 2017, which identified asbestos containing material, lead based paint, and lead impacted soil.  An Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) and Cleanup and Reuse Plan was completed in August 2017 to determine the most effective cleanup alternative.  A Biological Evaluation was conducted in August 2017 to assess potential effects of the demolition of the building and associated actions on species listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and critical habitat. In 2019, the Public Works Buildings 1 & 2 were demolished. Environmental reports are available upon request.
